ABOUT US

Summer Shorts was set up by Sunday Times bestselling author, magazine editor and former Prince's Trust/Marie Claire creative writing mentor Tasmina Perry.

'When I heard that two fantastic children's writing competitions were ending, I knew I had to create something new to keep kids writing, especially as the global pandemic has meant that kids have been away from school for so long. I'm passionate about giving kids creative confidence and believe that we need more writing competitions, not less, because they are such a great way to encourage people to sit down and create something. Plus, what better time to run it than in the long summer holidays when even Netflix and gaming can lose their appeal and kids are looking for something to do!'

At Summer Shorts we are passionate about fostering creativity in young people and nurturing a love of words. We believe that all kids have an innate creativity and a powerful imagination, but can lose creative confidence if they don't use it.

Creativity and story-telling skills are highly valued in the 21st century. Every great brand knows how to tell a good story, whilst in a recent LinkedIn survey, creativity was the top skill that employers look for.

But most of all, writing is fun. Starting with a blank page and creating something that makes a reader laugh, cry,  nod with recognition or sweep them away to another place, is a powerful feeling.

What are you waiting for? Grab a notebook or your computer and start writing! Maybe you will be the first ever winner of the Summer Shorts Creative Writing competition.

OUR JUDGING PANEL WILL BE ANNOUNCED SHORTLY
